Job Summary
As a Technical Product Manager at the School of Information (UMSI), you will contribute to the Information Technologies unit.
Reporting to the UMSI Associate Director of IT Systems and Services, you will be responsible for multiple data areas within the team and will manage data/implementation requests, enhancements to those specific data areas, in addition to new data development needs.
You will partner with campus and administrative units to define initiatives and objectives, and then elicit and validate requirements, to provide high-quality solutions.
You will map requirements onto platforms and do gap analysis. When platforms are selected you will build out the solution and perform quality analysis to determine how the system is missing users' needs.
The Technical Product Manager is an integral part of a diverse team including Software Developers, Project/Change Managers, Data Analysts, and more. This is a versatile role at the intersection of people, data, and business processes. The Technical Product Manager guides Business Intelligence and Data Integration projects from inception to completion, including requirements elicitation, data analysis, data mapping, solution design and implementation.

The UMSI IT unit is designed to provide rapid services and data to internal stakeholders at the University of Michigan. Responsibilities*
- Conduct comprehensive business and data analysis to translate requirements into detailed data and technical specifications.
- Lead the conceptualization and development of strategic objectives and initiatives that create or enhance organizational value; contribute creative ideas and strategies to develop user-friendly data delivery structures that facilitate decision-making.
- Perform strategic assessments to identify emerging challenges and define BI solutions, emphasizing quantitative methods, modeling, and techniques; facilitate business process improvement discussions, driving problem resolution and building support for BI initiatives.
- Prepare justifications for software acquisitions and translate requirements into applicable plans for all organizational levels.
- Develop comprehensive documentation, including use cases, process flows, user stories, and detailed specifications tailored to both business and technical audiences.
- Collaborate with leadership to define and align BI strategies with organizational and long-term goals while ensuring understanding of requirements between partners and technical teams.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Documented experience interpreting data, creating reports, and developing solutions.
- Experience working in an interdisciplinary product team and providing results across a variety of projects.
- Experience breaking down technical terminology for a variety of audiences including all levels of management and matrix organizations.
- Familiarity with Agile or Scrum methodologies and experience working within iterative development cycles.
Modes of Work

This is a hybrid position. You may be required to travel to multiple locations on and off campus. The main office workspace for this position is located in our North Quad building. Punctual and regular attendance is required. Must be available during most EST business hours. You may be required to work during non-business hours and on weekends based on the requirements for your position.
Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. Salary is determined by direct relevant experience and demonstrated past performance results while ensuring equity on our team.
