WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The State Policy Advisor advances TNC's conservation goals in Idaho by engaging in policy, advocacy, and strategic partnerships across the state. This role works closely with TNC-Idaho staff, as well as coalitions, government agencies, Tribal Nations, non-profits, industry, academic institutions, local communities, and other partners. You will engage in projects and campaigns related to working lands protection, biodiversity, agriculture, watershed management, forest and rangeland health, climate, renewable energy, and more.

The State Policy Advisor leads planning, implementation, and coordination for state and local advocacy across TNC-Idaho's priorities. By strengthening TNC's reputation as an effective, credible, nonpartisan partner on conservation policy and public funding, the State Policy Advisor works to influence the outcome of administrative, legislative, and/or corporate actions. They represent TNC to a variety of constituencies, cultivate and maintain relationships, build and facilitate internal and external networks, and make decisions in a complex environment. They develop strategic partnerships with respect for political and local community sensitivities and leverage communications, science, and other tools to advance TNC's conservation agenda.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Experience working with corporate or non-profit partners, government agencies, Tribal nations, or community groups.
  • Experience presenting to and/or communicating with elected officials or government, Tribal, business or organizational leadership.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and directing multiple or complex projects and ensuring program accountability.
  • Experience working on conservation policy in administrative, legislative, or other policy forums, including developing written communications.
  • Knowledge of current political trends and advocacy practices.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Master's degree appreciated.
  • Familiarity with social, economic, and political conditions and current policy trends at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Experience coordinating projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams and functions to achieve optimal results.
  • Experience supervising staff or contractors, including ability to set objectives and manage performance.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiating, and organizational skills.
  • Experience developing written communications such as fact sheets, blog posts, email alerts, briefing packets, talking points, presentations, and/or legislative testimony.
  • Experience working in government relations and/or corporate engagement in Idaho.
  • Experience working ethically and effectively with Tribal nations, indigenous people, or other local communities.
  • Experience working with state water or agriculture policy preferred.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $75,000-$82,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
