The Senior Manager, Retirement Plans and Benefits is responsible for overseeing the management and administration of the firm's retirement plans and global partner benefit programs. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation of the firm's defined contribution 401(k) plans, cash balance plan for partners, and partner health and welfare benefit plans. The Senior Manager collaborates with the Benefits Director to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and the smooth implementation of benefit programs, impacting the overall well-being of the firm's partners and the organization.
What You Will Do:
Oversee the activities of custodians, record keepers, actuaries, and trustees involved in retirement savings plan and pension plan administration.
Communicate retirement benefits to new and retiring partners and staff members.
Maintain and update technical and administrative specifications of retirement plans, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
Oversee compliance responsibilities including reporting necessary for the annual plan audits, actuarial valuation, non-discrimination testing, PBGC Premium filing, Form 5500 preparation, and Summary Annual Reports.
Reviews the annual 401(k) firm profit sharing contribution calculations performed by the actuaries, and oversees communication of the information to all participants.
Oversees administration of the global partner health and welfare benefit plans, including health, dental, life, LTD, supplemental LTD, and Umbrella Liability insurances. Serves as the escalation resource to the benefits liaison for partner inquiries.
Oversee management of partner leaves of absence initiation and coordination.
Collaborate with the Benefits Director in the preparation and management of the department budget.
Foster and maintain vendor relationships to ensure effective service delivery.
Coordinate with HRIS team to leverage Workday to improve operational efficiency in various benefit programs
Manage, mentor and coach two team members in collaboration with the Managing Director of Total Rewards.
Who You Are:
Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree is a plus.
8+ years of experience in retirement plan administration, including defined benefit and defined contribution plans, preferably in a consulting, human resources, or financial services environment.
2+ years management experience required
Experience working in “Big Law” is a plus.
In-depth understanding of retirement plan administration, including defined benefit and defined contribution plans.
Familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations governing retirement plans and benefit programs.
Knowledge of best practices in benefit plan design and administration.
Workday knowledge and familiarity a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders.
Strong Excel and data analysis skills
Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Strong customer service focus with a commitment to follow-up and follow-through.
Capacity to work independently with limited guidance, exercising sound judgment and knowing when to delegate or consult with superiors.
Proficiency in working collaboratively and sharing information within a team-oriented environment.
Flexibility to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple tasks, pay attention to detail, and adapt to changing priorities.
Problem-solving skills, including the ability to anticipate issues and propose appropriate solutions while considering differing viewpoints.
Effective performance in a multi-office environment.
