McGuireWoods LLP has an opening for a Private Wealth Services (Trusts and Estates) Paralegal in our Charlottesville office.The Paralegal prepares accountings and legal documents for multiple attorneys in the Tax & EmployeeBenefits - Private Wealth Services group and oversees trust and estate administration including probate court processes and procedures along with preparation of various tax returns related to estate administration/probate process. This position performs substantive accounting related legal work under the supervision of the attorneys and has frequent interaction with clients, court personnel and others.

Responsibilities:- Provides highly customized and sophisticated tax planning and information assistance to high net-worth clients.
- Analyzes and researches complex issues to determine tax consequences and ensure tax compliance.
- Prepares complex estate tax returns, gift tax returns, and fiduciary income tax returns.
- Prepares probate court filings, inventories, and accountings.
- Conducts thorough analysis of financial reports and account statements.
- Ability to work on an estate from the time of client's death; gathering information about assets and debts, through to distribution of assets from the decedent to the estate and beneficiaries.
- Prepares and updates status reports of estate administration for attorneys.
- Communicates with trust and estate beneficiaries regarding distributions.
- Interacts with trust and estate beneficiaries and attends meetings.
- Assists with retitling assets.
- Collaborates with accountants, trust officers, appraisers, and other professionals related to matters.
- Stays updated on changes in tax laws and regulations.
- Supports attorneys by providing tax and estate planning related insights and tax minimizing strategies.
- Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of relevant estates/trusts experience preferred.
- Prior experience in a law firm, trust department, or accounting firm preferred.
- Familiarity with trust and estates accountings.
- Ability to deal professionally and communicate clearly and concisely with both internal and external constituencies on all levels.
