The Practice Manager will serve as practice management lead and oversee certain processes of the Business Law Legal Specialty Groups (Specialty Groups) and certain Legal Practice Areas (LPAs) that are critical business priorities. The position works under the direction of the Chief Practice Officer – Business Law Department (CPO) and works closely with partners, leaders, and administrative team members to ensure timely and effective execution on processes and systems that support the strategic direction of the Specialty Groups or LPAs. This role will require a versatile, self-directed team player who will work closely with diverse groups that may evolve over time. An interest and ability to thrive and perform at a high level in a dynamic environment with multiple constituencies is needed to succeed in this role.
What You Will Do:
Overall Practice Management Operations: Work with the CPO, Specialty Group leaders, LPA leaders, and practice management team to manage operational and strategic aspects of the practice, including internal organization, meetings, information and data management, executing on deliverables in connection with firm processes, and other initiatives as requested by the CPO. Identify Specialty Group and LPA needs and opportunities, and work to advance relevant initiatives.
Talent Management: Based upon a solid understanding of the talent management goals of the Specialty Group, LPAs, Offices, and each individual attorney, work with attorney development committees and interact with partners and administrators on various talent management initiatives, including Specialty Group and LPA efforts related to recruitment, diversity and inclusion, and professional development and training. Understand the broader firm tools, process, and strategy to ensure proper execution on Specialty Group and LPA initiatives.
Business Intelligence: Produce reporting and analytics to build business intelligence that informs Business Unit and Group leadership on trends related to overall practice management, including talent management, financial performance, and knowledge management. Collaborate with the CPO and other members of the GO Team to identify actionable issues and plans arising out of metrics analysis and execute on related efforts to support and advance initiatives.
Who You Are:
5 to 7 years’ experience in Practice Management/Operations in a large law firm.
J.D. and experience as an attorney, in a large law firm preferred.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to develop and forge positive and collaborative working relationships.
Demonstrate sound judgment and to respect, protect, and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information.
Prior experience in managing projects and tasks including demonstrating delegation and organizational skills.
Work independently, be proactive, and take initiative.
Effective creative problem solving and people management skills.
