What You'll Do

  • Abstract all new cancer diagnoses and/or other reportable neoplasms within the cancer registry database according to established criteria from Michigan Cancer Surveillance Program (MCSP) and the American College of Surgeons - Commission on Cancer (ACoS-CoC).
  • You will utilize critical thinking skills and have a high attention to detail while performing case findings and patient follow-up activities using an established workflow
  • Work collaboratively with physicians and other clinical staff to obtain complete clinical information

Required Qualifications*

  • Oncology Data Specialists (ODS) from the National Cancer Registrar Association 
  • Ability to be analytical, reliable, and adaptable in clinical situations
  • Capable of working and making decisions independently
  • Take initiative and step outside of the box to develop creative ideas
  • Strong dedication to team success
  • Handle problems in a solutions-oriented manner
  • Experience desired 

Work Schedule

This position allows a flexible schedule with the ability to work from home.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
