WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Renewable Energy Project Manager will support the Northeast Division's Offshore Wind Policy Manager by assisting with implementation of the strategy, managing and supporting priority projects, grant writing and management, including grant budget management and contracts, working in partnership with TNC's regional teams, including the Global and North America Renewable Energy teams and other business units, planning and managing retreats and strategy coordination meetings as needed across divisions, leading research and strategic analyses as needed, facilitating coordination and knowledge sharing, including through presentations and colleague-to-colleague engagement across multiple programs, and developing and updating internal metrics to track the success of strategy implementation. In coordination with the Offshore Wind Policy Manager, up to 25% of the position may be utilized to support the Northeast Division's Climate and Energy Director with specific projects needed for the development and implementation of the Division's Renewable Energy strategy beyond offshore wind. They may advise TNC communications, marketing and philanthropy staff on issues related to the renewable energy strategy, projects, and related issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

  • Supports division management and strategy lead for offshore wind and occasionally (up to 25%) the division management's efforts related to the implementation of the renewable energy strategy more broadly beyond offshore wind.
  • Assists and supports coordination of teams, projects, and strategic initiatives across multiple geographies and business units.
  • With the support of the team, develops comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocation, risk management, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Designs, implements, and directs complex and diverse projects encompassing multiple programs from concept to completion, ensuring delivery on time and with complete budget utilization.
  • Collaborates with internal teams, external partners, local communities, government bodies, and relevant agencies to ensure project alignment with organizational goals.
  • Occasionally serves as a team leader for assigned projects; may require gaining cooperation of team over whom there is no direct supervisory authority.
  • Conducts research and analysis to support strategic projects and goals.
  • Facilitates knowledge sharing, learning, and mobilization of capacity to meet needs.
  • Incorporates cross-disciplinary knowledge to support program objectives.
  • Makes strategic decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.
  • Has significant latitude to engage directly with field management personnel.
  • Develops reports, presentations and assessments on topics related to the division's Renewable Energy and Offshore Wind strategies.
  • Works within a budget to complete projects, negotiates and contracts with and manages vendors and assists with budget development.
  • Develops and maintains metrics in TNC's internal database to track and report progress on the implementation of strategy.
  • Supports the team to conduct and evaluate technical feasibility studies to demonstrate successful pilots for deployment of large-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Stays updated on energy policies including the emerging trends. Support the policy and research teams in drafting policies at various levels. Manage project budgets, track expenses, and ensure financial compliance. Support team members in writing proposals and securing backing for new and existing projects.
  • May involve domestic and international travel of 25% or more.

The Nature Conservancy's Northeast Division Climate and Energy strategy is working to accelerate a clean, green, and equitable energy future. A core focus of this work is climate change mitigation through the buildout of renewable energy infrastructure at a pace and scale needed to achieve net-zero by 2050 emissions goals established by the states in the Northeast Division (VT, ME, NH, MA, RI, CT, NJ, PA, WV, DE, MD/DC) and in support of the organizations 2030 goals. Our Goals for 2030 | Climate Change & Biodiversity Loss Solutions. Supporting the deployment of Offshore Wind, in particular, is a Northeast Division priority. Such a comprehensive energy transition requires a smart buildout and nimble strategy approaches that support goals for the climate, conservation, and communities. We are seeking a motivated and experienced project manager primarily to work with the Northeast Division's Offshore Wind Policy Manager to support the implementation of the offshore wind strategy. The Project Manager will manage and support projects, work in partnership with regional teams and other business units. The location for this position is remote, but the role will require some travel and the ability to work during eastern standard time core hours.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree in political science, environmental policy, management or other relevant field and 5 years of government relations or corporate sector experience, or equivalent combination education/experience.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Analytical and project management experience. Demonstrated experience in successfully developing and implementing complex projects in an unstructured environment.
  • Supervisory experience (if required).
  • Experience developing, directing and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.
  • Proven communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven negotiation skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of current trends in relevant discipline; specifically of the federal leasing and permitting process for offshore wind development in the United States, renewable energy technologies, climate mitigation, energy transition and equity and justice in clean energy transition context.
  • Ability to work independently in a complex matrix organization environment and works collaboratively within a cross-functional interdisciplinary team.
  • Understanding of and relevant experience in the culture and politics of the northeast division states.
  • Experience leading complex projects or strategic initiatives in an unstructured, fast-paced environment to meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • Experience researching, critically analyzing, and evaluating information from divergent sources and compiling it into cohesive reports and recommendations for strategy and action.
  • Experience writing and editing informational material.
  • Experience presenting and communicating with internal and external audiences and creating compelling and high-quality presentations with functional tools such as Power Point.
  • Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
  • Experience writing, editing, and submitting grant proposals and applications, ensuring grant applications meet funder's guidelines and adhere to all regulations, coordinating with internal colleagues to compile financial data and measurable outcomes, tracking grant expenditures and providing guidance and support to project teams on grant management and compliance.
  • Strong analytical skills including validating the accuracy of data, interpreting data, integrating information and making decisions based on multiple factors.
  • Experience working in a metrics-driven culture.
  • Proficiency in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data.
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated.

SALARY INFORMATION

This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $85,000 - $120,000 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate's qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
