EXAMINATION FOR LATERAL PATROL OFFICER
TEST:

Only the first thirty (30) qualified candidates shall be considered for the testing process. SALARY:
Step 2: $71,763.16 (Less than two years experience)
Step 3: $85,859.10 (Two years or more experience)
VACATION BENEFITS:
Lateral Transfers may, during their subsequent continuous employment with the City, accrue and receive annual vacation leave according to the schedule set forth in Article 20, Section 20.02 of the OPBA Patrolman Contract beginning with the number of years of service which said Lateral Transfer is credited at the time of hire.
After 2 Years: 2 Weeks Vacation
After 6 Years: 3 Weeks Vacation
After 13 Years: 4 Weeks Vacation
After 18 Years: 5 Weeks Vacation
After 22 Years: 6 Weeks Vacation
LONGEVITY PAYMENTS:
Lateral Transfers may, during their subsequent continuous employment with the City, receive longevity payments according to the schedule set forth in Article 22, Section 22.01 of the OPBA Patrolman Contract beginning with the number of years of service with which said individual is credited at the time of hire.
After 5 Years: $400 Annual Payment
After 10 Years: $800 Annual Payment
After 15 Years: $1200 Annual Payment
After 20 Years: $1600 Annual Payment
After 25 Years: $2,000 Annual Payment
AGE REQUIREMENTS:
No person shall be eligible for an original appointment unless he/she has attained the age of twenty-two (22) years but not yet reached the age of thirty-five (35) years. However, in determining age eligibility for any candidate aged thirty-five (35) to forty-one (41) years, one year or more of qualified experience as a Peace Officer as defined by ORC 109.71A may be subtracted from a candidate’s age. Such credit for subtracting for years of experience as a Peace Officer is restricted to a maximum of 7 years. By way of example, a candidate who is thirty-nine (39) years of age by the date of original appointment with five (5) or more years of qualified experience would still be eligible to be placed on the eligibility list.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must be a United States citizen, must possess a valid driver’s License, and must be O.P.O.T.A. certified. The candidate must have a minimum of 12 months of prior full-time experience as a Peace Officer, which was a result of a competitive examination. A copy of a valid driver’s license and O.P.O.T.A certification MUST be uploaded to: https://parma.cloud9.innoprise.com/citizenaccess/.
Applications will be reviewed by the Civil Service Commission for minimum qualifications and qualifying applicants will then be scheduled for the oral examination and physical agility tests. Candidates must attain a 70% raw score to pass the oral examination.
Other requirements include a mandatory Basic Peace Officer Training requirement and certification, submission to a polygraph test, medical exam, background investigation, psychological profile evaluation, and passing of a physical agility test (required prior to original appointment but not needed to take the exam).

All applicants must complete the document titled “Personal History Questionnaire.” This document is an attachment contained in the Innoprise/Citizen Access application software. The completed questionnaire should be saved as an attachment to your application.
TESTING FEE:
There is a $30.00 non-refundable fee to take the oral exam. The said fee is due the day of the exam and payable in cash or money order made out to the City of Parma. No personal checks or credit/debit cards will be accepted. Said fee will be waived with proof of financial hardship.
ADDITIONAL CREDIT:
Given to applicants obtaining a passing score of 70% or better on the written exam. Additional credit of 20% will be given for qualified military experience. Satisfactory proof is required prior to receiving extra credit.
