About Duke Health's Patient Revenue Management Organization
Pursue your passion for caring with the Patient Revenue Management Organization, which is Duke Health's fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization that supports the entire health system in streamlining the revenue cycle. This includes scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue functions.
Performs specialized health information activ ities necessary to organize, maintain, and use electronic patient health records. Positions at this level have high customer service, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and require interpretation and explanation of policy and internal requirements related to health record documentation and completion, Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and regulations, and organization-wide functions and policies and procedures. Specific job responsibilities are based on the service unit with Health Information Management assigned and include: Performs HIPAA-compliant screening of incoming requests for protected health information o f our patients, distribution of medical records, deficiency management t o assure compliance with federal and state regulatory and accreditation requirements for health record content and timely completion and docu ment management to include the capture of health records in an electronic format. Excellent computer skills are requir ed to complete basic to intermediate tasks with Maestro Care, Solarity, Hyland OnBase and other related applications.
Duties and responsibilities of this Level
Release of Information Functions:
Performs preliminary screening of authorizations (pursuant to State and Federal Privacy Laws), enters requests for inf ormation into Maestro Care Release of Information Module, and returns to requestor with explanation if invalid.
Performs final review of selected records to verify the correct patient on each page/image of records prepared for disclosure and packages requested records for delivery through paper print, CD or flash drive. Assures all attached documentation is specific to the intended recipient and recipient. Validates encryption of all electronic media delivery methods. Document tracking information for all shipments within t he release to permit reconciliation of shipped and received packages.
Serves as front-line support through receipt of telephone calls from third-party requestors and patients related to theescalation of non-receipt, privacy incidents and problem solving related to medical record requests.
Provide an initial documentation entry within the ROI Complaint log to facilitate the problem resolution through the direction of ROI Leadership and/or compliance. Assists requestors in understanding the requireme nts for submission of a HIPAA-compliant authorization, provides an explanation for canceled requests and responds to general inquiries about obtaining medical records, navigation of MyChart and basic Care Everywhere inquiries. It requires a high level of communication and customer service skills to appropriatelyassess and respond to customers while de-escalating issues when necessary.
Manage tasks associated with the HIM ROI Customer Service Office to include greeting visitors, providing guidance forrequesting requesting medical records, completing the authorization for disclosure, verifying patien t/personal representative authority/identify and facilitating same-day cu stomer service by coordination with ROI team.
