WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The CCO Finance and Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the activities and personnel for finance for the Chief Conservation Office (CCO). They own and are responsible for the management, maintenance and reporting of financial data and/or the monitoring of management controls and processes to ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures, relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, and financial/management best practice. They report to the Director of Engagement & Efficiency for the CCO. This is a term-limited 4-month position with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. The location for this position is flexible within the United States and will work from a home office. Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the United States. No relocation, immigration or sponsorship assistance is available with this position.
The CCO Finance and Accounting Manager will work towards meeting the strategic finance priorities of the program. They will work with the Director of Engagement & Efficiency to manage and coordinate financial and operative plans and will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day tasks. They are responsible for managing central administrative finance functions and staff who support these functions. They are responsible for the development and implementation of annual budgets. They will also oversee and manage administrative tasks related to Finance, including processing forms and preparing financial reports and forecasts. Working with the Director of Engagement & Efficiency, they will be responsible for presentation of financial information at CCO Director and Leadership Team meetings. They work with Development team to include forecasted fundraising revenue in projections and ensure appropriate team integration and processes for proposal budgets and incorporation of donor and grant requirements into financial management between conservation and finance teams.
The CCO Finance and Accounting Manager will work in close cooperation with any or all of the following: Conservancy staff, donors, trustees, vendors, public agencies, financial institutions, and legal and accounting professionals. They will adhere to and advise on the organization's policies and procedures. They will provide advice, recommendations, and broad training related to operations and finance. They will maintain expert knowledge of the systems and resources utilized by the team and apply knowledge to managing support and planning communications related to the resources. They will manage documentation, initiate complex processes, and serve as a key team member for the enhancement of systems and tools. They will lead diverse activities, analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, and project outcomes, and implement solutions in order to improve effectiveness.

The ideal candidate should have exceptional communication and collaboration skills and experience in management of data and personnel. They have the following responsibilities and scope:
- Ability to get quickly up to speed with TNC's budgeting process to lead a finance team towards submitting FY26 budgets within a short deadline.
- Develop and monitor budget, forecast, sustainability, and strategic financial plans;
- Act independently, exercise independent judgment to identify and solve financial and operations complex problems;
- Design and manage multiple projects, directing work of staff, setting deadlines, and ensuring accountability;
- With the Director of Engagement & Efficiency for the CCO, design and plan new initiatives that will ensure department and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved;
- Direct or participate in negotiations for complex or sensitive agreements;
- Ensure programmatic commitments, Conservancy policies and procedures, GAAP, and financial standards are met and managed for compliance. Decisions may have program-wide impact and may bind the organization financially or legally;
- Provide timely and accurate financial reports and analysis to board members, project managers and BU Directors;
- Oversee general accounting duties, to include: basic journal entries for transfers, loans, accruals, deferred revenue and expense corrections;
- Review and monitor income statement and balance sheet (including pledges) items at month and year-end close;
- Ensure revenue, expenses and net assets are managed to reflect donor intent including working with cross-functional teams to perform revenue allocation;
- Develop quarterly certifications related to lands, depreciation of assets, and others
- Manage private funded awards and collaborate with Grants Specialists on managing public awards;
- Oversee and delegate as needed the day-to-day financial activities such as purchasing, processing invoices, negotiating, and contracting with vendors to available staff.
- Ensure contracted vendors carry required insurance coverage and that appropriate documentation is obtained and maintained;
- Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally-charged information;
- Supervise one or more administrative or professional staff, including training and professional development; establishing clear directions, setting objectives, and overseeing the execution of day-to-day work
- Travel occasionally, working long or flexible hours as needed;
- Liaise and coordinate with WO treasury on funds transfers in accordance with the Financial Management Handbook and WO Treasury requirements.
- Manage, report and monitor foreign exchange impacts
- Manage and oversee local payroll processes, including Insight uploads.
- Where applicable, manage and oversee local accounting vendor.
- Manage and/or oversee local accounts receivables in partnership with the Development/Conservation Departments
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience with Adaptive, Insight, Excel, Smartsheet.
- Experience with accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
- Experience recruiting, supervising, and developing staff.
- Experience with GAAP.
- Experience, coursework or other training with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses, as applicable.
- CPA or CIA may be required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- Prior experience with The Nature Conservancy may be preferred.
- Technical expert on complex accounting/financial issues. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience monitoring for and ensuring compliance with organizational policy, applicable law and regulation, and finance/accounting/management best practice.
- Experience analyzing a regulatory framework and applying it to the situation at hand.
- Expert knowledge of GAAP and/or relevant regulatory framework.
- Experience evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of management controls; interpreting guidelines and analyzing factual information to adapt or modify processes as needed.
- Ability to resolve complex issues independently within program area.
- Experience acting as a resource to others to solve problems.

SALARY INFORMATION
This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $50.69- $54.76 an hour and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate's qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
