Full Job Description
The mission of Wytheville Community College is to provide a quality, comprehensive education for the citizens of the counties of Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth, and Wythe and the city of Galax. To achieve this mission and to fulfill its role as an educational leader and partner, Wytheville Community College commits to a student-centered environment by: providing programs and courses in occupational-technical education, college transfer education, general education, developmental education, distance education, continuing education, and workforce development; utilizing a broad range of instructional technologies, methods, materials, and facilities that are designed to meet the diverse needs of students; offering a supportive, comprehensive program of student development services that contribute to student persistence, success, and citizenship; fueling regional and state economic development by forging partnerships with businesses, industries, public agencies, civic groups, public schools, and other institutions of higher education not only within the service region but throughout the Commonwealth; promoting Appalachian Culture and cultural opportunities of Southwest Virginia; promoting accessibility; promoting accessibility and affordability; and ensuring quality in all programs and services. The Division Dean reports to the Vice President of Instruction and Student Development and is responsible for the development, organization, planning, implementation, supervision and evaluation of the mission, purpose, goals, responsibilities and instructional programs of his or her respective Division and supervision and oversight of the colleges educational partnerships with public schools, private schools, and four-year transfer institutions. This position will be required to submit an annual Statement of Economic Interest. Specific duties may include but not be limited to the following: 1. Coordinates the development of the Divisions schedule of courses to be offered each semester; 2. Reviews, on a scheduled and routine basis, programs and individual courses offered within the Division, with particular emphasis on the relevance, quality, and effectiveness of each; 3. Ensures that courses and programs are in compliance with Wytheville Community College (WCC), Virginia Community College System (VCCS), State Council for Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), , and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) policies and requirements; 4. Assists with the selection of instructional and classified personnel within the Division; supervises and evaluates the performance of Division personnel; 5. Plans, monitors and evaluates the semester-by-semester course load of Division faculty; 6. Plans and monitors the quality, quantity and use of office and classroom space, equipment and instructional materials within the Division; 7. Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of articulation agreements with other institutions of higher education, agreements with area schools, business and industry, and the community at large; 8. Recommends and assists in the development of new or modified programs of study designed to meet existing or changing needs of the community; 9. Develops, implements and monitors the Divisions budget and expenditures; 10. Supervises the preparation of Divisional statistical data, reports and grant proposals; 11. Serves as a member of the Presidents Cabinet; 12. Represents the Division at meetings such as the Vice Presidents staff and other required committees and meetings; 13. Participates in Virginia Community College System meetings, including the Council of Coordinators, Directors, and Deans (CODD), and assists with the implementation of VCCS initiatives. 15. Other duties and responsibilities as necessary and assigned. The Division Dean will promote Wytheville Community Colleges mission through teamwork, respectful communication, maintenance of a professional environment, partnerships with constituents served, and overall excellent customer service. Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. KSA's/Required Qualifications Masters degree from an accredited college or university in field related to division programs; Demonstrated history of progressively more responsible teaching and/or administrative experience; Knowledge of instructional technology and learning styles; Strong oral and written skills; Experience with performance evaluation processes; Demonstrated commitment to the community college philosophy; and Ability to work with diverse groups. Additional Considerations Previous community college experience; Experience working with accrediting agencies and with grants; Demonstrated understanding of adult education principles and methodologies; Successful teaching and/or administrative experience with Transfer Programs; and Doctoral degree desirable in a related field from an accredited college or university. Operation of a State Vehicle Yes Supervises Employees Yes Required Travel Some overnight travel may be required to attend meetings and conferences throughout the state.
