Summary
The School of Inclusive Teacher Education invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor in Literacy (with the possibility of tenure, pending a full review*) with a start date of August 2025. Teaching and research may be related to one or more of the following areas: assessment, reading disabilities/dyslexia, disciplinary literacy, or reading foundations. The position is a 9-month appointment with the possibility of summer teaching.
The School of Inclusive Teacher Education, housed within the College of Education and Human Development, is committed to building and sustaining a dynamic, collaborative community of highly skilled teachers for all levels of education, thereby increasing graduates options and those of their students for lives as independent, productive, and contributing citizens. The School advocates for rigorous scholarship, innovative teaching and learning, and civic and professional engagement that places high value on the diversity of individuals and communities in a global society. The School serves approximately 1500 undergraduate students and nearly 500 graduate students in seven initial licensure programs and four graduate programs, with numerous endorsements and certificates. These programs are guided by more than fifty full-time faculty and staff.
The College of Education and Human Development, BGSUs founding college, is the home to a dynamic group of graduate and undergraduate programs, housed across three academic units: the School of Applied Human Development; the School of Counseling, Higher Education, Leadership, and Foundations; and the School of Inclusive Teacher Education. Approximately 150 full-time faculty and staff serve over 3,000 undergraduate students and over 1,000 graduate students. Essential Functions
- Teach graduate and undergraduate reading courses (face-to-face, blended, online; 3/3 teaching load) in one or more of the following programs: a) Graduate K-12 Reading Program; b) undergraduate licensure programs.
- Establish/maintain a productive research line leading to peer-reviewed presentations and publications and engage in grant writing activities as appropriate.
- Participate in student advising and collaborate in program development.
- Contribute to the school, college, university, and the profession through select service activities.
Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate is required for probationary appointment as Assistant/Associate Professor. Degree must be in Reading/Literacy, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field with a focus on reading/literacy. ABDs are eligible to apply, but all requirements for the doctoral degree must be met by the start of employment (August 2025).

Demonstrated evidence of scholarly activities, including research investigations, publications, presentations at professional conferences, and/or grant writing.

A minimum of two years professional experience teaching literacy (e.g., classroom teacher, special education teacher, reading specialist, or other related service provider in educational settings) or equivalent.

Demonstrated commitment to inclusion (e.g., through relevant pedagogy, curriculum development, teaching, service) and preparing educators to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience collaborating between special education and general education.

Experience integrating current topics in reading (e.g., dyslexia, the science of reading) within the broader context of literacy research and instruction.

Effective teaching experience at the college level in multiple modalities.
